Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter for WPDE-TV. She then worked as an anchor and morning reporter on WCBD TV. The articles written by O'Dell in Charleston concerning how Charleston police dealt with DUI cases in a manner that was lenient, led to an inquiry by State Law Enforcement Division. The inquiry led to a stronger directive for state authorities. In the year 2000, Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell her Best Report of the year award for the entire South Carolina media. O'Dell's experience in Charleston was the reason she joined as a co-anchor, reporter as well as NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Prior to she joined Access Hollywood she was a weekday co-anchor as well as NBC's weekend co-anchor.
